The Tune is a driven indie rock band that isn’t afraid to touch different genres. As the band name suggests, everything revolves around well-crafted songs and catchy melodic lines. Most of these come from singer/guitarist Rowan Verhoef, who lets his inspiration run free, unburdened by any formal music theory. The result is a sound with unexpected shapes and structures. Through strongly narrative lyrics, he pulls listeners into his turbulent life—one in which he, like many of his generation, struggles with the temptations of modern times.
On Friday, March 6, 2026, The Tune will release their debut album Distractions of the 21st Century. The release show takes place on Sunday, March 8 at Het Huis Verloren in Hoorn, followed by a short release tour. Their next single is expected in the early summer of 2026.

The Line-Up
Rowan Verhoef - Lead Vocals and Guitar
While the band always develops the songs together, most of the initial ideas for lyrics and melodies come from Rowan. As a young kid, he spent a few years singing in a local children’s choir. After that, music faded into the background—though Rowan continued writing poetry as a way to process the things he faced in life.
Around the age of nineteen, he decided to merge those poems with the melodies that had been playing in his head for years, aiming to write complete songs, with The Beatles as a major influence. The only problem: Rowan didn’t speak the “language” of music theory. Learning to play the guitar became the solution. He took exactly one lesson and figured out the rest on his own.
On stage, he’s rarely seen without his acoustic Ibanez—the same guitar he uses to compose all of the band’s songs.
Fabian Sentener - Lead Guitar
Fabian and his guitar seem to be inseparable for years. The one he has now is a far cry from the plastic one he bought at the age of ten from a local department store, dreaming of doing what Guns N’ Roses did on Appetite for Destruction.
At twelve, he relentlessly nagged his parents for a real guitar, on one condition: he had to take lessons. That only fueled his ambition, and Fabian went on to audition for the Rock Academy. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it past the first round.
By then, The Tune was taking shape, and Fabian briefly—and somewhat reluctantly—switched to bass. When a “proper” bassist eventually joined the band, he was more than happy to return to his natural habitat: the guitar.
Even though Fabian now works for the Netherlands Public Prosecution Service in everyday life, the drive to keep improving his playing—and to prove it on stage—has never faded.
Boris Kalshoven - Bass
With a conservatory-trained opera singer for a grandmother and a harpist for a mother, Boris was steeped in classical music from an early age. When he showed interest at the age of nine, his grandmother took him to the local music store and told him: “Pick an instrument.” He chose the keyboard. After four years of lessons with his grandmother, Boris later continued his studies with Hein Conijn.
Around the age of fourteen, he discovered bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers and felt an overwhelming urge to pick up the bass. He recognized the same role as the left hand on the piano—able to add depth and color to music with just a few notes. One try was all it took: Boris was hooked and started taking bass lessons.
Driven by pure dedication, he went on to practice four hours a day for four straight years, never missing a single day. This is how he developed his lyrical playing style, which he most loves to bring into the spotlight with his blue Fender Jazz Bass.
Stijn Thorn - Drums and backing vocals
From behind his beloved Pearl Limited Edition kit, drummer Stijn Thorn is the driving force of the band. Like many great musicians, he started his musical journey in a local show band. He was just six years old when he picked up the snare—and twenty-four when he finally called it a day.
Along the way, he also explored electric guitar and piano, but drums always remained his weapon of choice. At sixteen, he bought an electronic kit and began developing his skills.
His main influences include Larnell Lewis (Snarky Puppy), Ton Dijkman (Marco Borsato), and “The Rev” a.k.a. James Owen Sullivan of Avenged Sevenfold.
Through intensive self-study, Stijn has grown into a drummer with a strong command of multiple genres—an ability that also serves him well in the successful cover band RandOm, his other musical project. When he’s not making music, Stijn works as an all-round theater technician.
